Hi! I am Konko, a native of Senegal, but I grew up in New York City. My educational background is in Finance, and after university I landed a job in public accounting, where I have been working for nearly 20 years. I am a sport enthusiast who is passionate about self-development and creating useful wellness products and services for all.

During my adolescent years, I was passionate about soccer and basketball. I excelled in these and in college, I played basketball and dreamed that one day I would form a sports brand. My desire to work for myself was evident and manifested through several attempts at designing and selling sportswear. During this journey, I learned a lot about peoples’ wants and needs and gained a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.

The pandemic has been a period of self-reflection and recalibration of my priorities, as I am sure it has for many other people. During this time, I realized that good health and leading a purposeful life were my priorities. Now that I had defined my purpose, the next piece was ACTION. As such, after careful reflection, I decided this was the right time to pursue KinkeeTea, my mom’s delicious and super healthy tea.

The recipe for the tea was born during the December holiday season of 2014. It was while sitting at the dining table enjoying one of our many delicious meals that I first tasted the invigorating tea, with Kinkeliba tea leaves my mom served us from a glass pitcher. I found that in addition to its terrifically hydrating, thirst quenching qualities, mom’s tea had a magnificent aroma to supplement its splendid taste. My immediate reaction was we need to bottle this and share this majestic experience with all my friends. So, I embarked on a journey of research and experimentation to learn everything I could about these magical tea leaves.

My research revealed that Kinkeliba means “health tree” and has been used traditionally in Senegal and Mali for centuries. The leaves are favored for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-glycemic properties. Moreover, Nigerian medicine prizes it as a plant of power. The French call Kinkeliba “tisane de longue vie” – the “infusion of long life.”

I began testing the recipe with friends and co-workers to get their candid assessment of its various qualities. Indeed, I spoke about this African super tea to anyone who would listen. The results were the same time-after-time: everyone wanted more and more.

Once we were satisfied, we had refined the recipe in such a way to achieve the most desirable taste and the health qualities could be maximized, it was time to give this fantastic tea a name, Kinkee Tea.
